About Us

I never took an art class in school because music was always my elective, there was never a question about it.  And music has served me well, including solo ops at the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars games, ten years in the Dallas Symphony Chorus, two appearances at Carnegie Hall and over 35 years teaching music to children.  But when I recently retired, I was more than ready to pick up a paintbrush!  And I'm loving it!

My inspiration goes way back to Mary Engelbreit.   Her use of bright colors, whimsical patterns and black and white checks was fresh and fun.  Fast forward 30 years to MacKenzie Childs who took these same elements off the printed page and put them into furniture and home decor.  My first ME/MC inspired piece was my husband's grandmother's telephone table.  I cleaned it up, designed it and after 20 hours of painting we have a beautiful, sentimental piece that will enjoy a prominent place in our family for generations to come.

As exciting as it was to create a unique and inspired piece, it was just as fulfilling to give new life to an old, worn-out relic.  Now I was hooked!
Out of my cabinets came every home accent that had been cast aside.  I bought some paint and paintbrushes and the kitchen table became my studio.  I quickly realized it was time to share the joy.  I want others to see a Surely Stacey creation and feel the joy and inspiration I feel while creating them.
With very few exceptions, everything in my store has been used.  I frequent thrift shops, neighborhood sales, bargain basements, etc. looking for unique, gently loved decor that needs some TLC and the touch of a designer.  If you have an old piece or family heirloom you would like upcycled, please send me pictures.  I'd love the opportunity to breathe new life into something old!
